So What’s the Difference Between Personal Care and Support Services?

Together with a patient’s primary care team, we can build a personal care plan that will help improve recovery and long-term progress. Personal care typically addresses activities of daily living, "or ADLs", that are essential for independent living. This includes:

  • Personal hygiene (bathing, grooming and oral care)
  • Dressing
  • Eating
  • Toileting and continence
  • Transferring and mobility (standing, sitting, getting in and out of bed or the car)

Support services take care further, providing assistance with tasks such as:

  • Light housework
  • Laundry
  • Shopping
  • Transportation to the doctor’s (or the beauty salon)
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Writing letters or making appointments
  • Reminding Mom when to take her medications

Interim HealthCare of Charleston is not a maid service. However, our caregivers can give patients added support with everyday tasks that will allow them to conserve their energy and relax, knowing that life’s little necessities are under control.
